The New Forest National Park is probably the best area for horse riding in open country in the south of England. There is excellent hacking on heath and through forests with countless different routes and no restrictions. There are numerous paths and trails on dry sandy hills and woods and low boggy valleys. For quiet riding or fast cantering this is a superb
region. Some details are given here about the Burley area of the New Forest.
